about

Album released by Heterodox Records at heterodox-records.bandcamp.com/album/for-simplicitys-sake-htx094.

The Corrupting Sea: For Simplicity’s Sake is the newest studio album recorded at Somewherecold Studios in Shelbyville, Kentucky. This is The Corrupting Sea’s 15th studio album and a sort of return to the beginning. After a number of dense, deep, and long records, Jason Lamoreaux wanted to return to the simplicity of his recordings that were the first four or five albums. Minimalistic stems and shorter pieces were the goal of For Simplicity’s Sake so the artist could see what it was like to record in a way he did at the beginning but with all the experience the prior 14 albums had produced. The album is 14 tracks long clocking in at about 40 minutes in total.

Jason Lamoreaux currently resides in Shelbyville, KY and records under the name The Corrupting Sea. He runs the record label Somewherecold Records and has a visual art company called Sonic Wave Photography. Jason Lamoreaux has also started mastering albums for other artists at Somewherecold Studios and is planning to tour sometime in early 2022.

"For those not in the know, The Corrupting Sea is the musical endeavor of one Jason T. Lamoreaux, founder and owner of the Shelbyville, KY label Somewherecold Records. For many years now, Jason has been active with this project, exploring a wide range of themes and worlds through beautiful ambiance. For Simplicity's Sake is his latest endeavor, in collaboration with the Portland, Oregon label Heterodox Records.

Should one put on this CD or listen digitally on bandcamp, one should expect a soothing meditation driven by lucid drones and simple yet impactful piano in the beautiful "Moon Drops". This sets the tone for a collection of fourteen short tracks in a length of forty minutes, a revisit of earlier approaches to The Corrupting Sea's sound. The first half in particular bathes the ears with a soothing ambiance, evoking sound arrangements as colorful as the album cover.

However, I feel the song's lean more into a "bluish" color scheme with songs like "The Deep Blue", "Liquid Font" and "Overnight" in contrast to the oranges and yellows that primarily dominate the wonderfully glitchy album cover. If I had to further elaborate on "color-coding sound", I'd say "Where The Land Meets The Sky" with it's busy, static-like chatter amid the minimalist rhythm that develops leans into something more "bright" and complimentary to the album cover. "Conditions" further evokes into this brighter, more "orange" sound, if you will. The final trio of "Ocean Side", "The Journey" and "Outro - Mist and Contemplation" close out strong, like a return to wavy waters and deep, bluish sounds.

For those into ambient and minimal works this is a solid and consistent listen worth checking out, only adding to an individual's extensive catalog of soundscapes.

Recommended."

"The Corrupting Sea’s release “For Simplicity’s Sake” is a nice testament to versatility and creativity. From start to finish, the album showcases eclectic electronic music production, with razor sharp soundscapes, and meditative melodies. Each track is a journey in and of itself, taking the listener on a ride through “The Corrupting Sea.”

No extra reverb or delay needed – the ethereal soundscapes are raw. But at times the soft, hypnotic rhythms creates a sonic symphony that is both calming and inspiring. Each track flowing seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive and immersive experience. Let this one breath, and then you’ll feel each track flowing seamlessly into the next, creating a cohesive and immersive experience."
