about

"For six years straight, ambient/soundcape artist Jason T. Lamoreaux put out multiple albums per year as The Corrupting Sea. This streak culminated in the one-two punch of Lungs Like Lead, Lamoreaux’s musical dark night of the soul, and the more uplifting palette-cleanser Float, which closed out 2022 before Lamoreaux put the Corrupting Sea on the back burner. With Cold Star, Lamoreaux brings the project back into action by returning to Vangelis’s iconic Blade Runner score, one of his most formative influences.

Four decades after its release, Blade Runner continues to enchant viewers and listeners alike. From the press release for this album, one gets the sense that Lamoreaux could contribute his share of text to the volumes of existing commentary on the film. While that would certainly be interesting, the music on Cold Star manages to communicate Lamoreaux’s affinity for the source material quite nicely on its own. Here, resplendent synthesizer mist glows with that feeling of a nascent listener being blown away by something at a formative age.

In so many ways, this music truly honors its subject. Lamoreaux’s abiding sense of musical first love makes Cold Star a welcome addition to the Blade Runner canon."

"The Corrupting Sea: Cold Star: An Homage to Vangelis
Somewherecold Records

The Corrupting Sea is the project of Somewherecold founder, Jason T. Lamoreaux – a veteran who dips his hand in just about everything you can imagine to keep the dream of DIY culture alive.

The Kentucky native has been slaving away under The Corrupting Sea moniker for a while now, and his latest, Cold Star: An Homage to Vangelis, is another odyssey that is parts abstract and glacial. Not a world away from the collage sonics of fellow lifers Nonconnah, however on Cold Star: An Homage to Vangelis, Lamoreaux manages to adopt the kind of altitude ambience The Field mastered earlier in the century.

The latter is not immediate but spend a little time with this release and you’ll begin to recognise the influence. And from there, have a trawl through the back catalogue of The Corrupting Sea: it won’t disappoint."

"Cold Star" is The Corrupting Sea's first album in over a year. This is the largest gap between albums for the artist but that time allowed The Corrupting Sea to sit back and think deeply about recording and writing material.

"Cold Star" came from The Corrupting Sea's love for the Blade Runner soundtrack by Vangelis. This album is dedicated to him and ultimately inspired by his incredibly uncompromising work.

Physical copies will be limited to 25.

"The Corrupting Sea returns with a new release of inventive ambiance and thought-provoking soundscapes!

Ever intricate and conveying of raw emotions and progressive mindset through minimalist sound art, The Corrupting Sea pays tribute to a musical icon in his latest release. "Cold Star" is a homage to the works of Greek composer Vangelis and draws heavy inspiration from his legendary soundtrack to the classic film "Blade Runner". Amid the raw ambiance is an underlying resonance of cold dystopia and cyberpunk influence.

From the opening auditory observation of "Replicant Hunter" to the stormy city gloom of "Like Tears in The Rain" to the hopeful breath of frosty air in "Refuge" there is plenty to process in it's short length, all done with repsectful inspiration to powerful source material.

Six synth-driven tributes to stoke the imagination of a grim future and those glimmers of hope that shine despite it all. Cold star sets course for some of the finest work to date from Jason T. Lamoreaux and his main endeavor."

My Impressions:
Vast, spatial swells of harmonically ringing synnthesized music. A dense realm of shimmering matrix, swirling, crescendoing noise filters, and a
practically bottomless lake of subtle filtrations .

The overall presence is positively delicious as the song manifests itself in real -time for my ears. It screams to describe a new scientific
epoch of transcendence.

The track speaks of anticipation. The kind of anticipation that comes along as the summation of anxieties and hopes of generations.

The feeling is that something new is happening. Something beautiful, and significant, but not at all understood. Something so completely transformative that we will cease to even be human when we discover what awaits us .

The synths are singing like rocks crying out in rapt celebration of the movement of god. They are pure, powerful. perplexing but
sacred.

If you want to know what it feels like to step onto the bridge of a distant starship and look out on a cosmic visionary experience, it's you, your
ship, and the entire composition of the cold star itself. Nothing but wires, metal, glass, and space driving the listener from the full extent of the
heroic vision.
